Higurashi aftermath

[IN OUR LAST EPISODE Shaun and Cesare had a little trip down to the labs, if by "trip" we mean "a magical adventure full of torture-filled antics". Needless to say there's one historian laid up in a hospital bed, more or less asleep and bandaged like you wouldn't believe.]

You should use something that does not smell so bad.

I tried that, but most things didn't work right. Toothpaste is okay, and grape cough syrup is better, but cherry cough syrup is hands-down the best for wards.

I have no idea. There's probably something symbolic about it.

That, or cherry cough syrup was what my mother gave me when I was sick as a kid so my mind associates it with protection and health more than the others. It could be that. Magic is funny.

Oh. I see. *accepts this as an answer and moves on to a new question* What did the writing say?

Odds are, they're probably symbols of protection in my mentor's native culture or language, but I honestly can't say for sure. She wasn't from my world, and she didn't stick around long enough to give me a lot of instructions.

I see. Show me again.

I could show you, but it's not gonna do you much good unless you've got the talent for magic.

How do I know if I do?
