Higurashi aftermath

[IN OUR LAST EPISODE Shaun and Cesare had a little trip down to the labs, if by "trip" we mean "a magical adventure full of torture-filled antics". Needless to say there's one historian laid up in a hospital bed, more or less asleep and bandaged like you wouldn't believe.]

The bird? Hardly an ordinary trade for a library fee.

[Heee doesn't seem to care much, just saying he could use a bird and that the bartering system is alive and well here]

Unfortunately the bird is another citizen of Camp and I am hardly at liberty to include him among my available assets.

There is no need to involve him in this. He is in no shape to either work or hunt or even to behave as a songbird in a cage. If my time is of no use to you, I will be more than willing to find you a suitable substitute or to replace these texts on my own.

[Including a few of the 18th century texts? He's casually mentioning how few of them exist anymore, and what libraries they're in... which really shows just how much time Cesare would need to work off the debt. Really, ten months is a deal compared to what it should be...]

[And oh he's giving shaun a look over once in awhile, smiling.]

going to just point out that any discussion of length of time is pointless without first going over what the schedule would be like on a more daily or weekly scale*

[Where did Zhores get that timesheet from? Seriously, was he just about to sign out? (Yes). It looks like the jist of it is a normal nine-to-five, five day a week shift, his choice on what days he gets off.]

*oh so much haet for this schedule. making a note that he has animals to tend to and so these hours are unsuitable. if Zhores presses, going to try to pull the "I'm sixteen and technically underage in this country" card*

[That doesn't seem to be working, he notes that he could give him more time off, but he'd have to add more time to the job...]

*oh, yes, that would work quite nicely, thank you so much. three hours a week with an extension for the next ten or so years will work very well for him.*

[This is a soft chuckle and then shaking his head, maximum length of time would be two years, at three full workdays a week, calculating for interest of course, and in case someone... "left" early.]

*now that is sounding more reasonable, at least. unfortunately it still ignores the fact that three days out of seven he will not have the time he needs to tend to other matters.*

[But that still leaves most of the week, and isn't that more fair then any school he'd be attending?

And that would be shaun shuffling away a bit as zhores calmly puts a book away near him.]

pointing out that he is, in fact, attending classes from a private tutor and is studying several subjects*

["Then view it as extra credit" he also adds calmly that if Cesare is going to be so stubborn, perhaps he shouldn't use him after all...

And he places a hand on shaun's chair as he says it.]

but just smiling and saying that he would be able to do 12-5 Tuesday to Thursday*

[Fifteen hours a week, for two years? ...he looks like he's thinking about it for a moment.

"Done. Come with me. I'll get the agreement for you to sign."]

[SO MUCH RELIEF FROM THE SHAUNBIRD]

*yes, will sign the contract, after arguing over and hashing out a few minor points*
