[IN OUR LAST EPISODE Shaun and Cesare had a little trip down to the labs, if by "trip" we mean "a magical adventure full of torture-filled antics". Needless to say there's one historian laid up in a hospital bed, more or less asleep and bandaged like you wouldn't believe.]

I thought you were familiar with the use of those 'gun' weapons that so many insist are better than my sword or axe?

[Fenris is leaning against your doorframe, a bottle of wine dangling negligently from one hand.]

I was, at least better than most people who've never been here, but it doesn't work so well when they've already cut your throat. Also I didn't have one on me at the time.

[fistingthing]

Foolish, going unarmed. [Fenris . . . isn't really the sympathetic type, sorry. Then again, he's holding up the wine . . . ] I brought you a present.

Why you charmer, I can't have it now, it'll make a mess of what's already going through me, but I'll be glad to have it later.

Or you could have it now, a bit of company wouldn't go amiss.

[fistingthing]

Me, charming? That's new. I suppose I can sit with you for a bit. I have very few pressing engagements these days.

[He straightens up - well, as straight as he ever stands, anyways, no longer leaning against the door but still held in his habitual wary, feral hunch and steps foward.]

[fistingthing]

[And the doorway flares with red light and fake cherry scent and bounces him back into the hall; by the time the red light clears from the doorway, Fenris is glowing blue and bristling.] Venhedis! Fasta vass!

[sharpasafawkes]

[facepalming so much]

Oh bloody hell Tony, what did you do now?

[fistingthing]

What is this accursed magic?!

A friend of mine trying to protect me, not my choice mind you, I was unconscious at the time.

[fistingthing]

[Fenris eyes the doorway with clear suspicion, then thrusts one glowing arm through the frame; the door flares again, then the glyphs Tony carefully drew flash through a veritable rainbow of colours and the barrier dissolves, leaving only the smell behind.]

[fistingthing]

You never mentioned you had mages for friends. [After a moment, Fenris ducks through the doorway as though expecting it to bite him. Thankfully, it doesn't.]

He's a bit afraid of people saying letting it slip, he's a good sort, but I think something happened to him about it.

[fistingthing]

Hm. Understandable. Tevinter is the only place where a mage will be open about their powers, in Thedas. If he was only trying to protect you, I cannot fault that.

[sharpasafawkes]

He was, I think I remember him saying something about it being similar to something he had to go up against. Then again, I was essentially down for the count...

[fistingthing]

What did happen? [Fenris settles himself in the chair and sets the wine on the bedside table.]

[sharpasafawkes]

[Lets out a shaky breath as he more or less tries to get his mind NOT to think about it]

Someone I knew went mad.

[fistingthing]

-ah. [Fenris looks over at the wine.] Are you certain you can't drink this? Alcohol is remarkably good for removing that sort of pain, at least for a while.

[sharpasafawkes]

Wish I could, but it'll do a number on me right now.

[fistingthing]

When you are able, drinks are on me.

Though I had best find work soon or my purse will soon run low. Working with Hawke was lucrative enough, but I wasted most of my saved coin on a useless venture shortly before arriving here.

[sharpasafawkes]

What was that?

[fistingthing]

. . . [Fenris hesitates. After a noticeable pause, he says slowly:] An attempt to reclaim a piece of my past. It was a foolish hope. I should have known better.

[sharpasafawkes]

There's nothing wrong with it, if anything at least you took a little more control over the matter.

[fistingthing]

[Fenris' mouth twists bitterly, and he repeats:] It was foolish. I knew it was a trap from the moment I heard of my sister; I ought to have left well enough alone.

But that is not important. The person who did this to you, are they a danger to others?

[sharpasafawkes]

[just leaving that there, because THAT sounds like an argument he can't win]

....I don't know. When he's sane he's reasonable, as long as you don't step over any of his problems, but when he's mad...

[fistingthing]

[Yeaaaaah. Smart move. Also, that sounds vaguely familiar.]

Should I be looking for this person to prevent another from your fate?
