Higurashi aftermath

[IN OUR LAST EPISODE Shaun and Cesare had a little trip down to the labs, if by "trip" we mean "a magical adventure full of torture-filled antics". Needless to say there's one historian laid up in a hospital bed, more or less asleep and bandaged like you wouldn't believe.]

trying something, trying something--it works a bit, not enough to really stop Shaun, but enough that he'll want to try this scenario again later*

[considering just letting him win...

-but no, he's not going to learn otherwise.]

...Oh.

*looking at the little bit left on the board now*

You're going to win.

[sharpasafawkes]

Am I? Look at the board carefully before you say that.

[There might be a few openings, but it'd take a lot to win]

[maleborgia]

*moving something cautiously* If I go here then I could be nearly in position to checkmate you. But if I do that, then you would have to not notice and to attack my other piece over here instead. Or I could take your knight, but then my king would be poorly defended and you would be able to win anyway.

[Nodding]

You could move your rook to defend, but that'd only give you a turn. You'd have had to distract me first.

Yes. *looking at the board, decides to just play that tentative move anyway and sits back to let the game finish*

[sharpasafawkes]

[plays it out, explaining his moves as he does.]

*the most attentive audience!*

[Aaand then finally bumps Cesare's king over with his fluffy little head]

Checkmate.

[maleborgia]

*sweeps the pieces off the board and starts to set them up again*

I won't make the same mistake this time!

Cesare, I'm still hurt, just let me rest again for a bit.

[maleborgia]

*...was told to be good...*

All right. *moving the board and pieces off the bed* For how long will you be resting?

[sharpasafawkes]

[Starting to snuggle up on the pillow, leaving lots of room for the tiny]

About an hour, wake me up then, yeah?

[maleborgia]

I will.

*sitting on the floor setting the board up again for when Shaun wakes up. goes through a few different attacks and counters by himself, then returns everything to the starting positions. looks up at the clock to see that about half an hour has passed and then over at Shaun.*

[Yeah, he's already started to twitch a bit in his sleep, making noises that sure don't sound comfortable.]

*...tinybird what*

[sharpasafawkes]

[It looks like it's only getting worse, Shaun sounding like he's in absolute distress]

*getting up and coming over to lean on the side of the bed*

[sharpasafawkes]

[-and those are almost pleading cries, begging for mercy.]

*not sure if he should wake him up :<

debates for a few more seconds then touches his wing*

[He startles awake with a sharp cry, then huddles into a little shivering mass.]
